 Introduction:

The former premier of Taiwan, Jiang Yi-huah, made the remark “The 3D printing industry is a high-value industry that can spur local employment, fulfilling the criteria of the government’s industry policies, ministries and agencies have to plan forward-thinking strategies to support the 3D printing industry and implement them gradually in stages.” after the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) reported on “the development and promotion of the 3D printing industry ”at the Cabinet’s meeting,in August 2014. According to media sources, the Ministry of Science and Technology has set the objective that expects to train one million 3D Printing Application industry talents as well as cultural and creative industry. From this point of view, the issue of education as well as cultural and creative industry related to 3D printing is the significant aspect that waiting for intelligentsia both local and global as well as the experts and elites of this industry working together.

On the other hand, the giant of the domestic electronics industry on Taiwan, Mr. Morris Chang, the chairman of TSMC indicates that the “Internet of Things”, IoT, will be the next big thing on the science and technology Industry in his keynote speech to the World Semiconductor Council , held in May 2014. Chang also pointed out that the semiconductor companies will not be making most money out of it but IoT companies are. In addition that IoT companies will need a lot of cross departments’ cooperation which including manufacture, storage and data supply etc. Date: 2014-05   Data Source: Apple Daily

For the purpose of above-mention, Taiwan Art & Technology Association (ATATW) continues its mission of promoting technological and artistic integration as usual and the internet of things as well as 3D Printing will be the main topic of this symposium.

■Symposium Theme:

Connection without Frontier- New Artistic Dimension with IoT & 3D Printing

 Subtopics

1.Arts and Design in an IoT Age

Due to the new development of Human Computer Interaction and Digital resources, the objects interconnected with each other render the era of IoT has come. IoT is regarded as the next big thing, a variety of relevant branches such as wearable electronic devices, smart space and the development of smart living will expand as well. When the things become an“enhanced object”by the help of interconnection, the close communication among human, digital data and function creates a new status of space-time. Under a developing like this, the issue as below turn to be meaningful for the currently moment:

  • What the new progress and possibility while Arts and Design in an IoT Age?
  • What would the new value be created?
  • What would be the impacts for the experience of participants and users?
  • How to appraise these new experience?
  • What would it be the new challenges for the cooperation between Aesthetics and Cross-disciplinary even for the many aspect such as the exhibition of Museum and human care?

2.Digital-Making in Open Community

The progressing new technologies based on the 3D Printing integrated with digital design and objects making as well as the global open community’s resource sharing that make a whole new opportunity for the art and design to make objects. The following aspects will thus be discussed in the symposium:

  • What would be the new changes on the creation of Art and Design , theory , education , culture , aesthetics with global connection in open community?

  • 3D Printing has been regarded as a future industry revolution , How does it integrate an open and free communication community to create the biggest innovative beneficial result ?

  • What would be the opportunity and impact of the aspect of the design , producing , sharing, learning and diffusion regarding the development of “Fab Lab” as well as “Makerspace” ?
